Afonso II Of Portugal
Afonso II of Portugal, also known as Afonso II of Portugal, was the King of Portugal from 1211 to 1223. He was the son of Afonso I of Portugal and Maud of Savoy. His reign was marked by conflicts with the nobility and struggles to maintain royal authority, which ultimately led to his excommunication by the Pope.
Afonso II is often remembered for his efforts to strengthen the monarchy and improve the administration of the kingdom. However, his inability to manage the powerful nobles resulted in a decline in his popularity, leading to his eventual deposition. He was succeeded by his son, Sancho II of Portugal.
