Aestivation
Aestivation is a state of dormancy that some animals enter during hot or dry periods. This process helps them conserve energy and water when environmental conditions are unfavorable. During aestivation, animals may reduce their metabolic rate and seek shelter in burrows or under rocks to avoid extreme temperatures.
Many species, including certain snails, frogs, and insects, utilize aestivation as a survival strategy. This adaptation allows them to endure prolonged periods of drought or heat until conditions improve, ensuring their survival and the continuation of their species in challenging environments.
