Dormancy
Dormancy is a state in which an organism, such as a seed or a plant, temporarily stops growing and remains inactive. This process allows the organism to survive unfavorable environmental conditions, such as extreme temperatures or lack of water. During dormancy, metabolic activities are significantly reduced, conserving energy until conditions improve.
In nature, dormancy is common among various species, including trees and bulbs. For example, many seeds will not germinate until they experience specific conditions, like moisture or warmth. This adaptation ensures that growth occurs at the most suitable time, increasing the chances of survival and reproduction.
