Aepyornis
Aepyornis was a large, flightless bird that lived in Madagascar until about 1,000 years ago. It is often referred to as the "elephant bird" due to its massive size, with some species standing over 10 feet tall and weighing up to 1,000 pounds. Aepyornis had a large, rounded body and long legs, which made it well-adapted to its environment.
These birds laid enormous eggs, some of the largest known in the animal kingdom, measuring up to 3 feet in circumference. Aepyornis is believed to have been herbivorous, feeding on fruits and leaves. Its extinction is thought to be linked to human activity and habitat destruction.
