Acute Viral Infections
Acute viral infections are illnesses caused by viruses that typically develop quickly and last for a short period. Common examples include the common cold, influenza, and COVID-19. These infections often spread through respiratory droplets, direct contact, or contaminated surfaces, leading to symptoms like fever, cough, and fatigue.
Most acute viral infections resolve on their own without the need for specific antiviral treatment. Supportive care, such as rest, hydration, and over-the-counter medications, can help alleviate symptoms. In some cases, vaccines are available to prevent certain acute viral infections, such as the influenza vaccine and the COVID-19 vaccine.
