Acute Otitis Media
Acute Otitis Media is an infection of the middle ear, commonly seen in children. It occurs when bacteria or viruses cause inflammation and fluid buildup behind the eardrum, leading to pain, fever, and irritability. Symptoms may include earache, difficulty sleeping, and tugging at the ear.
This condition often follows a upper respiratory infection, such as a cold, which can block the Eustachian tubes. Treatment typically involves pain relief and, in some cases, antibiotics if a bacterial infection is suspected. Most children recover fully, but recurrent cases may require further medical evaluation.
