Acis
Acis is a character from Greek mythology, known for being a handsome young shepherd. He is often associated with the region of Sicily, where his story unfolds. Acis is best known for his tragic love affair with the nymph Galatea, who is a central figure in his tale.
The story of Acis and Galatea takes a dark turn when the giant Polyphemus, who is also in love with Galatea, becomes jealous. In a fit of rage, Polyphemus crushes Acis under a boulder. However, Galatea mourns him deeply, and the gods transform Acis into a river, allowing him to flow eternally in his beloved's memory.
