Acer Saccharinum
Acer saccharinum, commonly known as the silver maple, is a fast-growing tree native to North America. It typically reaches heights of 50 to 80 feet and is recognized for its distinctive silver undersides of leaves, which shimmer in the wind. The tree thrives in a variety of soil types, particularly near rivers and wetlands, making it a popular choice for landscaping in suitable areas.
The silver maple produces small, winged seeds called samaras, which are dispersed by the wind. This species is also valued for its ability to provide shade and habitat for wildlife. Additionally, Acer saccharinum is sometimes tapped for its sap, which can be used to make syrup, similar to Acer saccharum, or the sugar maple.
