The history of the Acadians begins in the early 17th century when French settlers arrived in what is now Canada, particularly in the region of Acadia. These settlers established communities and developed a unique culture that blended French traditions with local Indigenous influences. The Acadians thrived in agriculture and fishing, creating a distinct identity in North America. In the mid-18th century, the British took control of Acadia during the French and Indian War. This led to the forced removal of many Acadians, known as the Great Expulsion or Le Grand Dérangement, which scattered them across various regions, including Louisiana.
