Abraham Lincoln Brigade
The Abraham Lincoln Brigade was a group of American volunteers who fought in the Spanish Civil War from 1936 to 1939. They supported the Republican side against the Nationalists, led by Francisco Franco. The brigade was named after Abraham Lincoln, the 16th President of the United States, symbolizing the fight against fascism and the defense of democracy.
Composed mainly of leftist activists, the brigade included around 2,800 Americans. Many members were motivated by a desire to combat the rise of fascism in Europe. The brigade's efforts highlighted international solidarity during a time of political turmoil and conflict in Spain.
