AVALANCHE BEACON
An avalanche beacon is a safety device used by outdoor enthusiasts, particularly skiers and snowboarders, to locate individuals buried under snow after an avalanche. It emits a continuous radio signal that can be picked up by other beacons, allowing rescuers to find the buried person quickly.
These beacons operate in two modes: transmit and search. In transmit mode, the beacon sends out a signal, while in search mode, it receives signals from other beacons. Proper training in using an avalanche beacon is essential for effective rescue operations, along with knowledge of other safety equipment like shovels and probe poles.
