AV Node
The AV Node, or atrioventricular node, is a small cluster of cells located in the heart. It plays a crucial role in the electrical conduction system by receiving signals from the sinoatrial (SA) node, which is the heart's natural pacemaker. The AV Node helps coordinate the timing of heartbeats by delaying the electrical signal before it passes to the ventricles, allowing the atria to contract and fill with blood.
This delay is essential for efficient heart function, ensuring that the upper chambers (atria) fully empty their blood into the lower chambers (ventricles) before they contract. If the AV Node is damaged or malfunctioning, it can lead to various heart rhythm disorders, affecting overall heart health and function.
