AKP
The Justice and Development Party (AKP) is a political party in Turkey founded in 2001. It emerged from a coalition of conservative and Islamic groups, aiming to promote economic development, democratic reforms, and social justice. The party gained significant popularity and won the general elections in 2002, marking a shift in Turkish politics.
Under the leadership of Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who became Prime Minister and later President, the AKP implemented various reforms that contributed to economic growth and infrastructure development. However, the party has faced criticism for its increasing authoritarianism and restrictions on freedom of expression in recent years.
