A68 Iceberg
The A68 iceberg is one of the largest icebergs ever recorded, breaking off from the Antarctic Peninsula in July 2017. It measures approximately 5,800 square kilometers, making it larger than some countries. The iceberg was part of the Larsen C Ice Shelf, which has been closely monitored due to climate change impacts.
After its calving, the A68 iceberg drifted northward into the Weddell Sea. Over time, it began to break apart into smaller pieces, which raised concerns about the effects on local ecosystems and sea levels. Scientists continue to study its movement and the implications for global climate patterns.
