8th Earl of Rosse
The 8th Earl of Rosse, known as William Parsons, was an Irish nobleman born in 1900. He succeeded his father as the Earl in 1908 and was known for his contributions to astronomy and science. He was particularly associated with the Leviathan of Parsonstown, a large telescope built by his ancestor, which was one of the largest in the world during the 19th century.
In addition to his scientific interests, the 8th Earl was involved in various charitable activities and served in the British Army during World War II. He passed away in 1979, leaving a legacy of scientific inquiry and public service.
