2019 Easter Sunday Bombings
On April 21, 2019, a series of coordinated suicide bombings targeted churches and hotels in Sri Lanka during Easter Sunday celebrations. The attacks resulted in the deaths of over 250 people and injured more than 500 others, making it one of the deadliest terrorist incidents in the country’s history.
The bombings were carried out by a local extremist group known as National Thowheeth Jama'ath, which had links to international terrorist organizations. In the aftermath, the Sri Lankan government implemented security measures and sought to prevent further violence, while the attacks drew widespread condemnation from leaders around the world.
