1976 Montreal Olympics
The 1976 Montreal Olympics were the first Summer Games held in Canada, taking place from July 17 to August 1. A total of 92 nations participated, with over 6,000 athletes competing in 21 sports. The event was notable for its high level of competition and the introduction of new sports, including team handball and modern pentathlon.
The games were marked by the absence of several countries, particularly from Africa, due to a boycott in protest of New Zealand's sporting relations with South Africa. Despite the challenges, the Olympics showcased remarkable performances, including Nadia Comăneci's perfect 10 in gymnastics, which became a historic highlight.
