1916 Easter Rising
The 1916 Easter Rising was an armed insurrection that took place in Dublin, Ireland, from April 24 to April 29, 1916. It was led by a group of Irish republicans who sought to end British rule in Ireland and establish an independent Irish Republic. The rising was planned to coincide with Easter Sunday, and the leaders included figures like Patrick Pearse and James Connolly.
The rebellion was met with strong resistance from British forces, resulting in significant fighting and destruction in Dublin. Although the uprising was suppressed within a week, it sparked a shift in public opinion towards Irish nationalism and ultimately contributed to the establishment of the Irish Free State in 1922.
