야생동식물보호협약
야생동식물보호협약, also known as the CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora), is an international agreement aimed at ensuring that international trade in wild animals and plants does not threaten their survival. Established in 1973, it provides a framework for countries to work together to protect endangered species.
The agreement categorizes species into three appendices based on their level of threat. Appendix I includes species that are threatened with extinction and are prohibited from international trade, while Appendices II and III allow regulated trade to ensure sustainability. Countries that are party to the agreement must implement measures to protect these species.
