세배
세배 is a traditional Korean New Year’s greeting where people bow to their elders to show respect and wish them good fortune for the year ahead. This custom typically takes place during the 설날 (Lunar New Year) celebrations. The act of bowing is accompanied by specific phrases, such as "새해 복 많이 받으세요," which means "Wishing you a lot of luck in the new year."
In return for the bow, elders often give 세뱃돈, which is money or gifts, to the younger generation. This exchange symbolizes blessings and good wishes, reinforcing family bonds and respect for elders in Korean culture.
