紙
紙 (pronounced "kami" in Japanese) is a thin material made from cellulose fibers, primarily derived from wood, rags, or plants. It is widely used for writing, printing, packaging, and various crafts. The invention of paper is attributed to Cai Lun, a Chinese court official, in the 2nd century AD, and it has since evolved into many forms, including notebook paper, toilet paper, and origami paper.
In addition to its practical uses, 紙 has cultural significance in many societies. In Japan, for example, traditional crafts like washi (Japanese paper) are celebrated for their beauty and durability. Paper is also used in religious rituals, such as the creation of shide, which are zigzag-shaped paper streamers used in Shinto ceremonies.
