平氏
平氏 (Heike) was a powerful clan in Japan during the late Heian period, known for its influence in politics and military affairs. The clan's prominence peaked in the 12th century, particularly during the Genpei War, a conflict between the Heike and the Minamoto clans. The Heike were known for their naval strength and control over the western regions of Japan.
The downfall of the Heike came after their defeat in the Battle of Dan-no-ura in 1185, which marked the end of their dominance. Following this loss, many members of the clan faced exile or death, leading to the rise of the Minamoto clan and the establishment of the Kamakura shogunate. The Heike's legacy continues to be remembered in literature and folklore, particularly in the epic tale Heike Monogatari.
