塔吉克语 is a member of the 伊朗语 branch of the 印欧语系. It is primarily spoken in 塔吉克斯坦, where it serves as the official language. The language has several dialects and is closely related to 波斯语 and 达里语, which are spoken in 伊朗 and 阿富汗 respectively. In addition to 塔吉克斯坦, significant numbers of 塔吉克语 speakers can be found in neighboring countries such as 乌兹别克斯坦 and 吉尔吉斯斯坦. The language uses the 西里尔字母 script, although there have been efforts to promote the use of the 拉丁字母 script in recent years.
