Сэцубун
Сэцубун is a traditional Japanese festival celebrated on February 3rd, marking the transition from winter to spring. The name translates to "seasonal division," and it is associated with the lunar calendar. During this event, people perform rituals to drive away evil spirits and invite good fortune for the coming year.
One of the most popular customs during Сэцубун is the throwing of roasted soybeans, known as mame-maki. Participants toss the beans out of their homes or at shrines while shouting, "Oni wa soto! Fuku wa uchi!" which means "Demons out! Luck in!" This practice symbolizes purification and the welcoming of prosperity.
