Петрограде
Петроград, formerly known as Saint Petersburg, was the capital of Russia from 1914 until 1924. The city was renamed during World War I to reflect a more Russian identity, moving away from its German-sounding name. Pетроград played a significant role in the Russian Revolution of 1917, serving as a center for revolutionary activities and political change.
In 1924, Петроград was renamed back to Leningrad in honor of Vladimir Lenin, the leader of the Bolshevik Revolution. The city is known for its rich cultural heritage, including famous landmarks like the Hermitage Museum and the Peter and Paul Fortress. Today, it is a major cultural and historical center in Russia.
