Χανουκά
Χανουκά, also known as the Festival of Lights, is an eight-day Jewish holiday that celebrates the rededication of the Second Temple in Jerusalem during the second century BCE. It commemorates the miracle of the oil, where a small amount of oil, enough for one day, lasted for eight days in the temple's menorah.
During Χανουκά, families light a special candle holder called a menorah, adding one candle each night. Traditional foods include latkes (potato pancakes) and sufganiyot (jelly-filled doughnuts). The holiday is marked by games, songs, and the giving of gifts, fostering a spirit of joy and community.
