Τενοχτίτλαν
Τενοχτίτλαν, also known as Tenochtitlan, was the capital city of the Aztec Empire. Founded in 1325 on an island in Lake Texcoco, it became a major urban center known for its impressive architecture, including temples and palaces. The city was designed with a complex system of canals and causeways, facilitating trade and transportation.
At its height, Τενοχτίτλαν had a population of over 200,000 people, making it one of the largest cities in the world at the time. The city was a hub of culture and commerce, featuring markets, schools, and religious sites. It was ultimately conquered by the Spanish conquistador Hernán Cortés in 1521.
