Žuvintas Biosphere Reserve
The Žuvintas Biosphere Reserve is located in southern Lithuania and is recognized for its rich biodiversity and unique ecosystems. Established in 1993, it covers an area of approximately 20,000 hectares, including wetlands, forests, and meadows. The reserve is home to various plant and animal species, some of which are rare or endangered.
This area is particularly important for bird conservation, serving as a habitat for migratory birds and nesting sites for species like the white stork and great bittern. The reserve also plays a crucial role in scientific research and environmental education, promoting the sustainable use of natural resources.
