{Turgot's Six Edicts
Turgot's Six Edicts were a series of reforms introduced by Anne Robert Jacques Turgot, the French finance minister, in 1774. These edicts aimed to modernize the French economy by promoting free trade, reducing government intervention, and eliminating certain restrictions on grain trade. Turgot believed that these changes would stimulate agricultural production and improve the overall economic situation in France.
The six edicts included measures such as the abolition of the corvée, a labor tax, and the removal of price controls on grain. Turgot's reforms faced significant opposition from various social groups, including the nobility and the clergy, ultimately leading to their repeal in 1776.
