{Jacobite cause
The Jacobite cause was a political movement in Britain that aimed to restore the House of Stuart to the throne after they were deposed in the Glorious Revolution of 1688. Supporters, known as Jacobites, believed that the rightful kings were James II and his descendants, who were Catholic, in contrast to the Protestant monarchy that followed.
The movement gained significant momentum in the early 18th century, leading to several uprisings, including the notable Jacobite risings of 1715 and 1745. These efforts ultimately failed, but they left a lasting impact on British history and culture, symbolizing the struggle between royalist and parliamentary powers.
