{Ellsworth Mountains
The Ellsworth Mountains are a prominent mountain range located in Antarctica, specifically in the West Antarctic region. They stretch approximately 1,200 kilometers (750 miles) and are known for their rugged terrain and significant glacial features. The range includes several notable peaks, with the highest being Mount Vinson, which rises to 4,892 meters (16,050 feet) above sea level.
Discovered in 1935 by the Lincoln Ellsworth expedition, the mountains are named in his honor. The region is largely uninhabited and is characterized by extreme weather conditions, making exploration and research challenging. The Ellsworth Mountains play a crucial role in understanding the geology and climate of Antarctica.
