Walruses are large marine mammals known for their long tusks, whiskers, and blubbery bodies. They primarily inhabit the icy waters of the Arctic and are often seen lounging on sea ice. These social animals live in groups called herds and can weigh up to 2,000 pounds!
Walruses primarily feed on benthic invertebrates, such as clams and snails, which they find on the ocean floor. Their tusks, which are actually elongated canine teeth, help them haul themselves out of the water and onto the ice. Despite their size, walruses are agile swimmers, using their flippers to navigate through the chilly waters.
