tricuspid stenosis
Tricuspid stenosis is a heart condition where the tricuspid valve, located between the right atrium and right ventricle, becomes narrowed. This narrowing restricts blood flow from the right atrium to the right ventricle, making it harder for the heart to pump blood effectively. Symptoms may include fatigue, swelling in the legs, and irregular heartbeats.
The condition is often caused by rheumatic fever, a complication of untreated strep throat, or by congenital heart defects. Diagnosis typically involves echocardiography, which uses sound waves to create images of the heart, allowing doctors to assess the valve's function and severity of the stenosis.
