tachiyaku
Tachiyaku refers to a type of character role in traditional Japanese theater, particularly in Kabuki. These roles are typically played by male actors who portray heroic or strong characters, often engaging in dynamic action and dramatic scenes. Tachiyaku characters are known for their physical prowess and are central to many of the stories presented in Kabuki performances.
In contrast to Tachiyaku, there are Onnagata roles, which are performed by male actors portraying female characters. The distinction between these roles highlights the unique conventions of Kabuki theater, where gender roles and character types are carefully defined to enhance the storytelling experience.
