A "straw man" is a common argumentative technique where someone misrepresents or oversimplifies another person's argument to make it easier to attack. Instead of addressing the actual point being made, the person creates a distorted version of the argument, which is easier to refute. This tactic can lead to misunderstandings and distract from the real issues at hand.
For example, if person A argues for better environmental regulations, person B might respond by saying, "Person A wants to shut down all factories!" This response does not accurately reflect person A's position and instead creates a "straw man" that is easier to argue against.
