static line jumping
Static line jumping is a method of parachuting where the parachute is automatically deployed as the jumper exits the aircraft. A cord, known as the static line, is attached to the aircraft and the parachute. When the jumper leaves the plane, the cord pulls the parachute out of its pack, allowing it to open without the jumper needing to pull a ripcord.
This technique is commonly used by military personnel and in training exercises because it ensures that the parachute opens at a predetermined altitude. Static line jumps are typically performed from lower altitudes compared to freefall jumps, making them safer for beginners.
