squire
A squire was a young man in the medieval period who served as an apprentice to a knight. Typically starting around the age of 14, a squire's duties included taking care of the knight's horse, armor, and weapons. This role was essential for learning the skills and responsibilities needed to become a knight himself.
As part of his training, a squire would accompany the knight into battle and participate in tournaments. The ultimate goal for a squire was to earn the title of knight through a ceremony called dubbing, which marked his transition into full knighthood and the responsibilities that came with it.
