southern tick-associated rash illness
Southern tick-associated rash illness (STARI) is an illness caused by the bite of certain ticks, particularly the Lone Star tick. It is characterized by a rash that resembles the one seen in Lyme disease, but STARI is not caused by the same bacteria. Symptoms may also include fatigue, headache, and muscle pain.
The rash typically appears as a red, circular area around the bite site and can expand over time. While STARI is generally mild and resolves on its own, some patients may benefit from antibiotics if symptoms persist. Awareness of tick bites and prompt treatment can help manage the illness effectively.
