scale (Balance)
A scale, often referred to as a balance, is a device used to measure weight or mass. It typically consists of a beam supported at a central pivot point, with two pans or platforms on either side. When an object is placed on one side, the scale measures the weight by comparing it to known weights on the other side, achieving equilibrium when both sides are balanced.
Scales come in various types, including digital scales, which provide electronic readings, and mechanical scales, which use physical weights. They are commonly used in settings like kitchens, laboratories, and medical facilities to ensure accurate measurements for cooking, scientific experiments, and health assessments.
