salchow
The salchow is a figure skating jump that is characterized by its takeoff from the back inside edge of one skate. Skaters typically perform a single, double, or triple rotation in the air before landing on the back outside edge of the opposite skate. This jump is named after the early 20th-century skater Ulrich Salchow, who was the first to land it in competition.
To execute a salchow, skaters often use a preparatory move, such as a glide or a turn, to gain speed and momentum. The jump is considered one of the easier jumps for beginners to learn, making it a common element in both singles and pairs skating routines.
