roneat
The roneat is a traditional musical instrument from Cambodia, classified as a type of xylophone. It consists of wooden bars of varying lengths, which are struck with mallets to produce sound. The roneat is often used in classical Cambodian music, particularly in ensembles known as pinpeat, which accompany dance and theater performances.
There are two main types of roneat: the roneat thung, which has a lower pitch and is played horizontally, and the roneat ek, which has a higher pitch and is played vertically. Both types are essential in preserving and promoting Cambodia's rich cultural heritage through music.
