Homonym: retrogrades (Astrology)
In astrology, a "retrograde" refers to the apparent backward motion of a planet as observed from Earth. This phenomenon occurs when Earth passes by another planet in its orbit, creating the illusion that the other planet is moving in reverse. Retrogrades are often associated with disruptions in communication, technology, and travel, depending on which planet is in retrograde.
Each planet has its own retrograde cycle, with Mercury being the most well-known. During a Mercury retrograde, for example, people may experience misunderstandings or delays. While some view retrogrades as challenging periods, others see them as opportunities for reflection and reassessment.
