The red deer is a large species of deer native to Europe, parts of Asia, and North Africa. Males, known as stags, are distinguished by their impressive antlers, which they shed and regrow annually. Females, called hinds, are smaller and do not have antlers. Red deer typically inhabit forests, grasslands, and mountainous regions.
These animals are social creatures, often found in herds, especially during the breeding season, known as the rut. Red deer primarily feed on grasses, leaves, and shrubs. They play a significant role in their ecosystems by helping to maintain vegetation balance and serving as prey for large predators like wolves and bears.
