random (Arbitrary)
The term "random" refers to a lack of pattern or predictability in events. When something is described as random, it means that it occurs without a specific reason or order. For example, drawing a card from a shuffled deck of playing cards is a random act, as each card has an equal chance of being selected.
"Arbitrary" is similar to random but emphasizes that a choice is made without any logical reason or system. For instance, if a teacher assigns seats in a classroom based solely on personal preference, that decision is arbitrary. Both concepts highlight the absence of structure in decision-making or outcomes.
