planarians
Planarians are flatworms belonging to the class Turbellaria. They are known for their simple body structure, which is typically elongated and flattened. Planarians are found in freshwater environments, such as ponds and streams, and can also inhabit moist terrestrial habitats. They are often recognized for their remarkable regenerative abilities, allowing them to regrow lost body parts.
These organisms possess a pair of eyespots that can detect light and dark, aiding in their navigation. Planarians feed on small organisms and decaying matter, using a specialized feeding structure called a pharynx. Their simple nervous system includes a network of nerve cords, enabling basic movement and response to stimuli.
