orizuru (Crane)
The orizuru, or crane, is a traditional Japanese origami figure that symbolizes peace, hope, and healing. It is often associated with the legend that folding 1,000 cranes grants the folder a wish, such as recovery from illness or world peace.
In Japanese culture, the crane is also a symbol of longevity and good fortune. The practice of folding orizuru has gained international recognition, especially through stories like that of Sadako Sasaki, a young girl who folded cranes in hopes of recovering from leukemia caused by the Hiroshima atomic bombing.
