maxillary nerve
The maxillary nerve is one of the three main branches of the trigeminal nerve, which is responsible for sensation in the face. It primarily carries sensory information from the upper jaw, teeth, gums, and parts of the nasal cavity. This nerve also supplies sensation to the skin of the cheeks and the lower eyelid.
The maxillary nerve exits the skull through the foramen rotundum and travels through the pterygopalatine fossa. It gives off several branches, including the infraorbital nerve, which further innervates the skin of the face and the upper teeth.
