Koalas are adorable marsupials native to Australia. They are known for their fluffy ears, large noses, and a diet that mainly consists of eucalyptus leaves. These leaves are tough and low in nutrients, so koalas spend a lot of time resting—up to 20 hours a day! Their unique adaptations help them survive in their natural habitat.
Koalas have a special pouch where they carry and nurse their young, called joeys. After being born, the tiny joey climbs into the pouch to continue developing. Sadly, koalas face threats from habitat loss and climate change, making conservation efforts crucial for their survival.
