jackass penguin
The jackass penguin, also known as the African penguin, is a species native to the southwestern coast of Africa. It is easily recognizable by its distinctive black and white coloring and the unique braying call that resembles a donkey, which is how it got its nickname. These penguins typically stand about 24 to 28 inches tall and weigh between 5 to 11 pounds.
Jackass penguins primarily inhabit coastal areas and prefer sandy beaches for nesting. They are social birds, often found in large colonies, and feed mainly on fish and squid. Unfortunately, their populations are declining due to habitat loss, oil spills, and overfishing, leading to their classification as endangered.
