intersex
Intersex is a term used to describe individuals who are born with physical sex characteristics that do not fit typical definitions of male or female. This can include variations in chromosomes, hormones, or reproductive and sexual anatomy. Intersex traits can be apparent at birth or may become noticeable during puberty.
Intersex is a natural variation in human biology and is not a disorder. It is estimated that about 1 in 1,500 to 1 in 2,000 live births result in intersex traits. Awareness and understanding of intersex conditions have increased, leading to more inclusive discussions about gender and sexuality in society.
